Tanks, silos and vessels

Tank transport across England, Scotland and Wales

Storage tanks, silos, water tanks and process vessels lifted onto our lorries, carried to site and set onto their bases by the same trained driver.

Tank delivery

Storage tank transport with our own HIABs

Tanks are bulky and awkward to handle, and they often need setting onto a plinth or into a tight corner of a site. A HIAB lorry carries its own lifting arm, so the vehicle that brings the tank also lifts it off and lowers it gently into position.

Hiab Haulage moves tanks for manufacturers, breweries and distilleries, farms, water and utility contractors, fuel suppliers and engineering firms. From our Manchester base we cover the whole of England, Scotland and Wales.

  • Water tanks and bunded fuel tanks
  • Silos and hoppers
  • Pressure vessels and process tanks

Planning the lift

Every tank and silo move is planned

Before we book the vehicle we talk through the tank, how it is lifted and where it is going. That lets us choose the lorry, plan how the tank will be secured on the bed and make sure the driver can set the stabilisers safely at both ends.

  • The material, shape and size of the tank
  • Lifting lugs, frames or cradles
  • Whether the tank is empty and clean
  • The base it will sit on and the access to reach it

Silo transport needs particular care because of the height and shape, so we look closely at the route and the delivery point. Add up to four photos to the tank and silo quote form and we will send a plan and a price.

Vessels, storage tanks and water tanks on the move

Smaller tanks travel on rigid HIABs. Long vessels and larger tanks go on artic HIABs, articulated flatbeds or extendable trailers, strapped and chocked so they stay secure for the whole journey.

Tank and silo questions

What does tank transport by HIAB involve?

Our driver lifts the tank onto the lorry with its own lifting arm, secures it for the journey and lifts it off at the delivery point onto its base or plinth. The same lorry and driver handle the whole move.

Can you move silos?

Yes. We move silos and tall vessels between yards, farms and industrial sites. Tell us the shape of the silo, its lifting points and where it needs to stand and we will plan the lift.

Can you collect a tank from one site and deliver it to another?

Yes. Site to site moves are a regular job for us, whether a tank is being relocated, replaced or taken away for refurbishment.

What do you need to know about the tank?

What it is made of, its shape and size, whether it is empty and clean, the lifting points, and the access at both ends. Photos of the tank and the delivery spot are a great help.

Have a tank to move?

Send us the collection and delivery addresses, a description of the tank and photos of both ends. We will plan the lift and send you a price.
